
Several expatriate organisations are hosting Iftar gatherings attended by hundreds of faithful in different parts of Doha. The Qatar Bangabandu Parishad central committee observed the 35th National Mourning Day in memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a prayer gathering.The event concluded with an Iftar party.
Organising secretary Mohamed Nurul Alam and other officials including Anwer Shah, Oahid Buyan, Shafiqu Kader, Babu Tarit Sean, Fardous Alam, Noor Mohamed, Sourab H, Shanawaj, Shabuddin, Waab Khan, Roupam Sarma, Haji Abul Hassem, Liakat A Khan, Jahangir Alam and Mozamel Hoque were among those present. The Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA) hosted an Iftar gathering for its members and families. Islamic quiz for children and women were organised as part of the event.
Sajid Ahmed and Ulfath Qunati Naser were the quizmasters. Hafiz Abdur Rab Umari was the chief guest. KMCA’s Islamic affairs chief co-ordinator Syed Abdul Hye also spoke.
Indian embassy second secretary M R Qureshi, Indian Cultural Centre president K M Varghese and Karnataka Sangha Qatar president Arun Kumar were among the guests.
KMCA president Saquib Raza Khan welcomed and vice president Rehman proposed a vote of thanks.
M Iqbal Manna, Sheikh Usman, Abdulla Mono, Muneer Sheikh, Shafi Ahmed and Mohsin Sikander were the co-ordinators of the event.
The Qatar India Fraternity Forum held an Iftar meet as part of the Nasaimul Khair programme by the Qatar Guest Center, at the Ramadan Tent in Doha.
More than 2,000 men and women from India and other parts of the world participated. Dr C K Abdulla delivered the keynote address. Ahmed Kutty welcomed and T V Abdul Hameed proposed a vote of thanks.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Middle East celebrated an ‘Iftar for Cabs’ initiative that brought more than 30 of their properties in the region together for a worthy cause.
On August 17, representatives from participating Starwood hotels including the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel and W Doha Hotel & Residences distributed packets of food and drinks to cab drivers as they drove through the main entrance of each hotel.
Catering teams at each property prepared up to 200 Iftar packs for drivers, which included a variety of food and beverages.
“The purpose of the initiative is to give a little something back to cab drivers, who are always on the go and can struggle to find time to break their fast during Ramadan,” Starwood Middle East vice president and regional director Guido De Wilde said.
W Doha Hotel & Residences general manager Safak Guvenc said the initiative strengthens “our commitment towards the community in Doha, and reinforces that each member of our team endeavours to assist others.”
Vodafone Qatar which has sponsored Iftar tents organised by Qatar Charity, has been feeding as many as 2,500 people for free at locations in New Doha and Al Khor.
The air-conditioned Iftar tents attract a large number of labourers who would otherwise find it difficult to buy and prepare food during Ramadan.
Vodafone Qatar employees have been volunteering in the Iftar tents throughout the month of Ramadan. They have also been distributing free Iftar boxes containing dates and water to motorists and passers-by, helping them break their fast.
The boxes are distributed every Tuesday and Thursday at the Airport traffic signal and TV roundabout from 5 to 6pm.
“Vodafone is committed to making a world of difference for all the people in Qatar in everything we do,” corporate social responsibility head Luisa Gentile said.
